A Combat Controller with the 21st Special Tactics Squadron, TSgt Villegas is a rare two-time recipient of the Silver Star. His actions in Afghanistan (2009 and 2011) involved protecting his team during ambushes and controlling massive amounts of airpower to neutralize threats. During his first Silver Star action, TSgt Villegas deliberately drew enemy fire by running into the open during an ambush, allowing him to fix the enemy's location and call in precise airstrikes that devastated the opposing force. In his second awarded action, he once again distinguished himself by sprinting hundreds of meters across exposed terrain to recover a teammate, all while coordinating rotary and fixed-wing close air support. His long and highly decorated career stands as a testament to the Combat Control motto, "First There." He consistently demonstrated extreme bravery under fire, serving as the critical link between ground elements and devastating airpower across numerous deployments.
