TSgt Clint Campbell
23rd STSA Combat Controller with the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron, TSgt Campbell received the Silver Star for actions in Kandahar (2010). He ran 300 meters through enemy fire to mark a target and directed 22 airstrikes, neutralizing a massive insurgent force. When his element was pinned down in a Taliban stronghold, TSgt Campbell repeatedly exposed himself to rocket-propelled grenades and PKM machine gun fire. Recognizing air support was their only option, he sprinted into an open field to physically mark enemy positions for incoming fighters. Despite near-constant incoming fire, he calmly directed a symphony of aircraft over several hours, destroying fortified enemy compounds and ultimately allowing his ground force to complete their mission and extract safely without any friendly casualties.
